19 - 23 October 2020
WoW to School Week is a free, fun, week-long celebration for tamariki in the Wellington region.
As part of Kia Eke Paihikara Tātou | Greater Welly Bike Fest, Greater Wellington Regional Council is running a Walk or Wheel (WoW) to school week on 19-23 October to encourage tamariki to get active with their journeys to and from school.
Spring is a perfect time to start good habits and can also help schools reduce congestion at the gate. We provide supporting information, a small prize pack and Walk or Wheel passports for schools that register before 12 October.  Schools can use the passports and prizes to reward students for their efforts during the week.
Sign up now and we'll send you what you need by 16 Oct!

School participation in WoW to School Week enhances sustainability curriculum, builds community, and highlights the benefits of active transportation - like less congestion and healthy, energised students.

How can your school get involved?

  • Put up a poster display and share info with whānau

  • Post on Facebook and in newsletters that your school is walking or wheeling this week

  • Get a student WoW or ‘wheels’ committee going

  • Hold mini activations such as a bike fix up with parent volunteers, or give out stickers, stamps or passport cards for those who bike, scoot or walk.

  • Set up a walking school bus or cycling school train with whānau/community volunteers

  • Talk to your local council road safety person about holding a Milo breakfast or getting goodies!

  • Share the safety booklets for students and families (below)

See more tips on activations on the website or in the Active Travel Action guide
